Libby Neathery
My name is Elizabeth Neathery, although feel free
to call me "Libby." I'm from a small town (village, in all actuality)
in Central Illinois: DeLand. I recently completed my Associate's
in Art Education at Parkland College and am now in pursuit of
my Bachelor's Degree from The University of Illinois in Art Education.
I am fortunate to have discovered my love of art very early on in life,
but it was not until fairly recently that I decided the career I wanted to pursue.
I completed a paid internship as a High School art teacher in Villa Grove, Il.
during my second year at Parkland and knew that sharing what I had learned
and having the opportunity to instill a love of art in other individuals was
what I wanted to continue to do. This idea was further expanded,
as I completed a workshop at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts
in Gatlinburg, TN. this summer. I met a wide demographic of teachers
and future art educators and found that my interests were entirely lined up
with projects they got to plan/instruct, their love of human relations and
interactions with students, and the ability to continue and expand one's
personal work -while doing so. Art has been therapeutic for me. I experienced
a lot of personal loss, and what was once something I simply enjoyed,
became my passion and an escape. The constant desire to create has certainly
not faded -and I am confident it never will. Fulfilling that desire and finding
contentment in continuing to make work is what has drove me to further
myself in this field and expand my knowledge and abilities.
I look forward to new experiences to come at UIUC and beyond.
