"Sounds of Invisible Labor"
The first sound I recorded were actually the sounds inside of an Expresso Royale coffee shop, as my order was being made. You hear the employees running the machines, other customers talking and placing orders, and employees fulfilling/yelling out other orders. I was just fascinated with the hustle/chaos of this location; yet the employees were fully concentrated on their task at hand, and even other people hanging out were focused on homework/their to-do lists.

For this recording, I passed a landscape/grounds worker on campus, and I thought it was a unique idea because these tasks often go unnoticed. The campus and the entire area is manicured so intensely and the upkeep of the area is clearly emphasized.

Movie Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5UWmeddjF0&feature=youtu.be
Core Idea: An aspiring Olympic Athlete -training to compete in the upcoming olympic games in running events. The documentary includes interviews with the athlete and her coach. As well as follows her training rituals, sharing personal facts, and seeing the workouts she does firsthand.
Group Members: Dominic, Marie, Sarah, and Libby.
Duration: 3 Minutes, 15 Seconds.
Characters: -Starky McKinnley (Coach/2 time Olympic Athlete) (Dominic)
-Female Athlete (Nameless) (Marie)
-Interviewer(s) (off-screen: Sarah, Libby)
Sound: Audio Selection in the background, Voice Overs and Interview Selections.
Ideal Audience: Avid Sports fans: humor lovers: younger audience.
Collaboration/Position: Our group worked really well together! Arranging a time to meet was not an issue, fortunately we all had a few of the same evenings free to meet and work on the project. We did not do a lot of prep-work, as far as we wanted it to seem "improv-like" and not too rehearsed. We all contributed ideas for interview questions and lines, as we went.
Modifications: Dominic did the majority of the editing, and cut a lot of the interview footage to present the main points and better explain the story line. We had to modify our idea of a "private" glimpse into the training of an olympic athlete, because the facility was used by a dance group mid-performance. Bu we included them in the background -and if anything it added to the production/overall comical aspect of the film.

My reflection of today's assignment, and creating a "found sound composition."
- Similarly to works with performance arts, I was not familiar in working with audio and sound as means of art. So this assignment was a new experience on top of an already challenging idea. When I went to collect the sounds I anticipate using, I tried to be selective and listen to subtle things that you do not necessarily notice happening around you everyday. For example, the locusts in the trees as you walk to class (that you never pause to listen to,) the beeping and different sounds traffic lights make, and footsteps of students rushing up and down stairways... etc.
- I am intrigued by the idea of furthering these sounds and my composition into a visual representation, and seeing what I can compile that will encompass these subtle details of the "everyday."

Michel Journiac: Performance Art:
"Gender is performance."
-His performances often made viewers uncomfortable with the ideas of gender roles/stereotypes. Not just general ideas, but the stereotypes they held themselves and often did not realize they did.
-In a classroom setting, I did not want to call students out/make them participate in something that would make them uncomfortable.
-Thus, I had the idea to have both genders stand up, then imitate or "pose" in their idea of how the opposite gender would. Ex.) Girls stand up/lean against a wall, cross their arms, etc. Boys stand up, hands on their hips, put their weight on one hip, etc.
-It's sort of a comical experience to watch others do this -So it draws attention to what we affiliate others with, and makes students "uncomfortable" with their idea of gender stereotypes (when others can see your ideas/thoughts.)

"Body Works:"
For this assignment, I thought about in what ways we use our bodies and what the best way to represent those different ideas would be. Lately, my body is used as a mode of transportation more than anything else. I am constantly running between buildings, biking to class, moving up and down stairways, etc. as are most students. So I thought it would be neat to translate that idea into two different works. The first, (a comfortable medium) was a drawing I did of my own legs modeled/posed in three different ways.

ARTS 252 -Ideas for "Daily Ritual" Project
2. "Details of a Room:"
draw/illustrate minor parts of a particular room every day, and compile drawings into work of the "entire space" (use of mixed media, as well?)
3. "Work Space:"
variation on idea 2, where instead of doing details of a room, I photograph or draw what my desk/workspace looks like at the end of everyday.
(messy, cluttered, organized, clean, food, art supplies, etc.)
4. "With Every Step You Take:"
"do not feel guilty you have a life that was denied to me; live your life, laugh again, enjoy yourself, be free. I'll know with every step you take you'll be
taking one for me." -Tribute of sorts to Andrew, photograph my "first step" out the door every morning. Difference/interest in shoes, weather, bike
pedals, etc.
5. "Note."
Photocopies/pictures of my notes/doodles from everyday classes.

Arts 252 -Project Notes
After watching the videos of performance arts by Yoko One, entitled “eye blink,” Joseph Beuys’ “Fltz TV,” and George Brecht’s “Car Concept,” it broadened my view of what performance art is. I had this sort of narrow-minded idea that it involved dancing, or a specific combination of audio, movement, and acting. When in all actuality, it can be whatever the artist wants to communicate or have the viewer experience. I have little-to-no experience in this kind of work, so when our group began to brainstorm ideas of a simple performance art we could create with what resources we had available at the time, we took a direction entirely different route from the videos we had watched. We took an almost comical approach, and kept it light hearted. Yet, it still plays on the idea of entertainment and what is considered “performance” to the masses. We illustrated faces on our thumbs and staged a WWE thumb-wrestling match. The project came together very simply, and it was a unique experience for all of us. There is some editing and audio work to be done still on the project.
